Message from our mayor

On behalf of the the citizens, staff, and, elected officials, welcome to the City of Moriarty website. Please take a few minutes to browse through it and see what our City has to offer. Moriarty is called the "Crossroads of Opportunity" because it is perfectly located in the heart of New Mexico along the Historic Route 66, "The Mother Road."

We invite you to visit and experience Moriarty in person. You will find the people to be the friendliest and most hospitable you have ever met! The photos above only give you a brief glimpse of our community. Enjoy our heritage of pumpkin, corn, and bean harvests. Visit the Moriarty Historical Museum, with its rich collection of historical, archival and ethnographic materials, records, documents, and objects that tell the history of Torrance County.

It is the mission of the City of Moriarty to provide residents, visitors, and the business community with the highest quality of municipal services, in the most efficient and courteous manner, and to enhance the quality of life through resourceful planning and visionary leadership. Enjoy your stay!

Sincerely,

Ted Hart, City Mayor

This is Moriarty

Out here, we prefer our boots dusty, our hand shakes firm, and our doors open. We are rooted in resilience. Through settlement, growth, fire, drought and re-birth, we remain. We are a close-knit community, living for our families and welcoming our guests. We value authenticity above all else, and always make time for the little things. Whether it’s a warm pot of green chile stew, the quick kiss of rain against the dry earth or the miles of freedom that unfold outside our doors, we are thankful for all that we have. Our sunrises are just as important as our sunsets, in the same way that our triumphs are just as important as our struggles. We keep our hopes high and our roots firmly in the ground, sewn by the generations of farmers and ranchers that have come before us. Occupying an historic stretch of Route 66, we pride ourselves on upholding the values that our city was founded on: hard work, humility, honesty, friendliness and faith. With open arms, we welcome you to come and experience it for yourself. This is Moriarty, a place with room to grow closer.

Our History
Runs deep.

The City of Moriarty was named for the first permanent family to settle in the community. Michael Timothy Moriarty, his wife and their three children arrived (at what is now Moriarty) in the fall of 1887, and homesteaded their land.
