YOUR WALK
| IT
EXCITES ME TO SEE YOU WALK.
THE WAY YOU SET YOUR FEET AS IF THE GROUND WAS SOMETHING TO BE EXPLORED. THE WAY YOU HOLD YOUR HEAD, AS IF THERE WAS SOME DISTANT MUSIC TO BE HEARD. THE HOT ASPHALT OF THE CITY TURNS INTO A QUIET PATH THROUGH COMPLACENT FOREST WHEN YOU WALK. AND IT EXCITES ME. KEEP WALKING TOWARDS ME. |
WINDMILL
| WINDMILL SILVER
AGAINST AZURE SKY
BROWN IS THE EARTH, THE WEST, WHERE WOULD IT BE WITHOUT THE LIFE-GIVING, LIFE-SUSTAINING WHIRR OF THE MILL, WITHOUT THE CONSTANT TURNING OF THE BLADES? THERE IS REASSURANCE
IN THE PULSATING SOUND,
WINDMILL BLACK
AGAINST ORANGE SKY;
TRANQUILITY
ENTERS MY HEART,
WE ARE AT PEACE,

The MORIARTY COMMUNITY LIBRARY was established in the small club house
of the Moriarty Extension Club,in 1975. At that time, the Library was open
two afternoons per week, for a total of eight hours. In those idyllic days,
all the Library help was done on a volunteer basis, and ladies would gather
in the Library every Thursday afternoon and play cards, and check out romance
novels.
In 1987, the City of Moriarty enlarged the Community Center Building and
due largely to the efforts of City Council Member Charles Morrison, the
Library was moved to that location. Mrs. Wanda Tritt became the Head Librarian.
In 1996, Valeri McElligott became the Head Librarian. The Library is now
open 48 hours per week.
The Moriarty Community Library is still located in the Community Center
Building in a room consisting of a little over 900 square feet. We
do a lot with a little space; there are over ten thousand volumes of material,
including books on tape and videos. The Library has all the usual
genres: classics and literature, fiction, (still some romance novels),non-fiction
and reference, science fiction, fantasy, horror, western, young adult
fiction and informational books, and easy readers and picture books for
the very young. In addition, Moriarty Community Library boasts an
excellent and growing collection of Southwestern materials. Thanks
to grants from the USWest Foundation and the Bill Gates Foundation Library
Initiative, there are six computers available at no charge to the public,
all with Internet access.
The
Moriarty Community Library is recognized by the City of Moriarty as an
official Tourist Information Center, and has materials for sale and distribution
available to travelers.
